1. What is a business industry code?

Business industry codes are a series of numbers coded to represent a specific business industry. Organizations and individuals, when preparing business registration documents, must use this business industry code table for registration. Level 4 industry codes (4 digits) are used for business registration.

The Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification System (VSIC), issued under Decision 36/2025/QD-TTg, has a hierarchical structure with 5 levels, from general to specific:

This group includes:

– Manufacture of safety protection equipment such as:

– Manufacture of pens and pencils of all types, mechanical or otherwise;

– Manufacture of pencil leads;

– Manufacture of numbering stamps, date stamps, hand-operated printing devices or embossing stamps, hand-operated printing devices, ink cartridges, and computer ribbons;

– Manufacture of gloves;

– Manufacture of umbrellas, sun umbrellas, walking sticks;

Excludes:

– Manufacture of lamp wicks is classified under group 13990 (Manufacture of other textiles not elsewhere classified);

– Manufacture of work and service clothing (e.g., protective workwear, uniforms, laboratory coats) is classified under group 14100 (Manufacture of wearing apparel (except apparel made from fur skins));

– Manufacture of papier-mâché figures and paper decorations is classified under group 17090 (Manufacture of other articles of paper and paperboard n.e.c.);

– Manufacture of plastic decorations is classified under group 2220 (Manufacture of plastic products);

– Manufacture of individual personal protective masks is classified under group 32501 (Manufacture of medical and dental instruments and supplies).

– When registering a business establishment, when notifying changes to business lines, or when requesting a change to the Enterprise Registration Certificate, the business founder or enterprise selects a four-digit industry code from the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification System to record the business lines in the enterprise registration dossier. The business registration authority guides, cross-references, and records the enterprise’s business lines in the National Business Registration Database.

– For conditional business lines stipulated in other legal documents, the business lines shall be recorded as stipulated in those legal documents.
