1. What is a Business Industry Code?

Business industry codes are a sequence of numbers encoded to represent a specific business industry. Organizations and individuals, when preparing business registration documents, must use this business industry code table for registration. Level 4 industry codes (4 digits) are the codes used for business registration.

The Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification (VSIC), issued under Decision 36/2025/QD-TTg, has a hierarchical structure with 5 levels, from general to specific:

Example of industry code structure: Taking the food manufacturing industry as an example:

• Level 1: C (Manufacturing)
• Level 2: 10 (Food processing and manufacturing)
• Level 3: 107 (Manufacture of other food products)
• Level 4: 1075 (Manufacture of prepared meals and dishes)
• Level 5: 10751 (Manufacture of prepared meals and dishes from meat)

2. Regulations on Industry Code 0220 Logging

This group includes:

– Harvesting of timber for the forest product processing industry;

– Harvesting of timber for carpentry such as house pillars, roughly shaped stakes, railway sleepers, etc.

– Charcoal burning in forests using traditional methods.

This group also includes: Gathering and producing by-products from logging, such as branches, stumps, wood chips from logging activities.

Excludes:

– Growing Christmas trees is classified under group 0129 (Other perennial crop cultivation);

– Harvesting short-rotation shrub crops for energy, such as poplars and willows, on a fee or contract basis, is classified under group 01610 (Support activities for crop production);

– Growing standing timber, reforestation, transplanting, thinning, and forest conservation are classified under group 0210 (Forestry and logging support activities; forest nursery);

– Gathering non-wood wild forest products is classified under group 023 (Gathering of non-wood forest products);

– Manufacturing wood chips and wood pellets not related to forestry activities is classified under group 1610 (Sawmilling, planing, and preservation of wood);

– Manufacturing charcoal through wood distillation is classified under group 2011 (Manufacture of basic chemicals).

3. Suggested ways to record Industry Code 0220 Logging

– When registering a new enterprise, when notifying changes to business lines, or when requesting a conversion to a new Enterprise Registration Certificate, the enterprise founder or the enterprise shall select the four-digit economic industry code from the Vietnam Standard Industrial Classification to record the business lines in the enterprise registration dossier. The business registration authority shall guide, cross-reference, and record the enterprise’s business lines in the National Business Registration Database.

– For conditional business lines stipulated in other legal normative documents, the business lines shall be recorded according to the regulations in those legal normative documents.
