Law on Investment of Vietnam 2020 – Law No. 61/2020/QH14

1. What is the Law on Investment?

The Law on Investment regulates business investment activities in Vietnam and investment activities from Vietnam abroad. This law applies to investors and agencies, organizations, and individuals related to business investment activities.

2. What is the latest Law on Investment of Vietnam

The 14th National Assembly passed the Law on Investment of Vietnam 2020 on June 17, 2020, which took effect on January 1, 2021, officially replacing the Investment Law 2014.

Accordingly, the following business investment activities are prohibited:

• Providing debt collection services (new regulation);
• Trading in narcotic substances as specified in Appendix I;
• Trading in chemicals and minerals as specified in Appendix II;
• Trading in specimens of wild plant and animal species sourced from nature as specified in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora; specimens of forest plant and animal species and endangered, precious, rare aquatic species of Group I sourced from nature as specified in Appendix III of this Law;
• Engaging in prostitution;
• Buying and selling human beings, corpses, body parts, or human fetuses (addition of the prohibition on buying and selling corpses and human fetuses);
• Engaging in activities related to human cloning;
• Trading in explosives.
